San Jose State has had its best start in conference history and looks to continue its non-conference success against Saint Mary’s on Tuesday.
The Spartans (5-2) host the Gaels (4-3), who has had difficulties on the road to start the season by dropping their last three away games.
SJSU will focus on the Gaels’ struggles on the road in their matchup.
In their three road losses, Saint Mary’s failed to consistently hit the ball in order to get runners in scoring position.
The Spartans need to exploit these deficiencies by coming out strong with their pitching and continue dominating on both ends.
SJSU is 2-2 at home and have allowed opposing teams to outscore it by an average of 2.25 runs per game.
In the Spartans home losses, they were held scoreless early and were not able to rally enough runs to win.
SJSU will look to junior outfielder Kellen Strahm, who is hitting an outrageous batting average of .500. In the last outing for the Spartans, Strahm was the player to get the offense started and ended the day 3-for-5 with an RBI.
The offense for the Spartans will need to stay hot against the Gaels, who have not figured out how to stop runs when on the road.
A starting pitcher has not been announced yet. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. at Municipal Stadium.
