San Jose State men and women’s track and field finished in seventh and 11th place in the three-day Mountain West Indoor Championships in Albuquerque, N.M.
Both teams competed in various events, which included 60, 200, and 400-meter dashes, 800 and mile runs.
After the first day of the championships, the women’s track and field team tied with Air Force in 10th place with Utah State finishing.
The team of senior Savanna Perez, junior Jeanette Zambrano and freshmen Mikayla Akers and Kai Bohannon set a new SJSU record in the distance medley relay. The four recorded a time of 11:58.67, surpassing last year’s record of 12:25.58.
As for the men’s team, it placed sixth in team scoring while Boise State sat in first place after Day 1.
The women’s best individual finish came on the last day in the 800-meter dash.
Perez came in ninth-place with a time of 2:17.69. The winning time for that event was 2:08.05 ran by Avi’Tai Wilson from UNLV.
Also on the final day, the men’s team accumulated a point from Aidan Jardon. The junior finished in eighth-place in the 400-meter dash with a time of 50.16 seconds.
With the Mountain West Championships being the Spartans last indoor meet, they set off to prepare for their outdoor track and field season.
Both teams will compete in the UC Davis Aggie Open starting on March 8.
