Michael Steadman racked up his eighth double-double of the season as San Jose State men’s basketball (3-23, 0-14 MW) fell to Air Force, 82-68.
The junior transfer’s efforts of 21 points and 17 rebounds were not enough as the Spartans extended their losing skid to 17 games.
The first half was all Falcons (12-15, 7-8 MW) as they outscored SJSU 48-25.
The Spartans were not able to make defensive adjustments until the second half and allowed the Falcons to get hot. They shot 49 percent from the field and 44 percent from deep.
Air Force was successful in out rebounding SJSU by 9 in the first half, which allowed it numerous second chance opportunities.
Once the second half got started, the Spartans began to compete. They shot 47 percent from the field while holding the Falcons to only 30 percent.
SJSU was too late in making this second half run and still finds itself winless in conference play.
Behind Steadman, juniors and freshman guards Brae Ivey, Brian Rodriguez-Flores and Seneca Knight recorded 12 points apiece.
In order for the Spartans to try and salvage some wins with the limited games they have left, they will need to make more in-game adjustments before it’s too late.
SJSU will try to end its losing streak against the University of New Mexico on Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the Event Center.
