San Jose State gymnastics took a devastating 195.050-193.250 defeat against UC Davis on Friday.
UC Davis managed to take the highest score in each event and ending with Kelley Herbet winning the individual all-around title.
The Spartans still managed to score well, but their improvements did not show as they have in the past.
Bars was the first apparatus for SJSU, where senior Stephanie Relova and sophomore Nikki Duggan tied for a team-high of 9.775.
However, UC Davis scored higher than a 9.775 in five out of the six bar routines.
The second apparatus was the vault. This became a repeat of the first event in that no Aggie scored lower than both of the Spartans’ top vault gymnasts.
Freshman Carli Orcutt has been a top performer for the Spartans early in her college career, and even tied with junior Taylor Chan in the event.
The queen of the beam for SJSU was Chan at 9.825, followed by junior Chelsey Andrada with a 9.750 score.
Even the strong event of the floor was difficult for the Spartans. They were short one floor routine as Relova did not perform at this event.
Chan earned her fifth 9.900 of the season with her routine as senior Josalyn Ray recorded a 9.775.
The Spartans have now lost to the Aggies three times this season, but they will have one more chance to face off in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championship in three weeks.
Before that, SJSU will head on the road again and face Seattle Pacific on Friday at 7 p.m.
