Baseball welcomes Pacific in home opener

After a three-game sweep of Santa Clara University, San Jose State baseball will look to continue its success against Univeristy of Pacific on Tuesday at Municipal Stadium.

The Spartans (3-0) had themselves a high scoring weekend, topping Santa Clara in three straight matchups while scoring an impressive 32 total runs.

SJSU hopes to continue its hot hitting against the Tigers (3-0). SJSU totaled 36 hits over the past three days and will look to keep that going on Tuesday.

Pacific swept its series against Chicago State, scoring a combined 20 runs in the three contests.

Two players to watch for from Pacific will be redshirt senior utility player Nate Verlin, who had 3 RBIs in the team’s last contest, and junior infielder Grant Mora, who went 3-for-4 with 2 RBI’s.

The Spartans offense will look to continue their patient approach and the red-hot bats into Tuesday. They struck out only nine times and were walked a total of 16 times against the Broncos on Monday.

Junior catcher Johnny Mendoza will look to have another big outing after going 4-for-5 with a triple and 4 RBIs. Sophomore outfielder Connor Konishi will be another name to watch for as he went 3-for-4 and knocked in 3 RBIs.

This selective mindset will surely be a part of the Spartans game plan Tuesday at home.

First pitch is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
