San Jose State swimming’s (4-3) win streak extends to four meets as it took first place in 12 of 14 events to defeat No. 24 Cal State East Bay (6-4), 176-86.
Juniors Gabby Heng and Gabriela Vieira, and freshman Chloe Limargo combined for six individual first-place finishes.
The meet started with the 200-yard medley relay. The team of freshmen Makenna Mathieson and Madelyn Sailors, Limargo and Vieira took first at 1:48.19.
Junior Jamie Dodd finished first in the 500-yard freestyle at 5:12.67, with Heng taking the 200-yard freestyle at 1:54.69. Heng also finished first in the 250-yard freestyle.
Vieira kept SJSU rolling by taking the 50-yard backstroke with a time of 27.13.
Limargo followed and took first in the 50-yard breaststroke at 31.07, and later placed first in the 100-yard breaststroke.
With a time of 58.79, sophomore Tatum Roepke gave the Pioneers their first first-place finish of the day in the 100-yard butterfly. Vieira finished second at 58.95.
In the 50-yard freestyle, it came down to milliseconds, but CSUEB’s junior Allie Klinger came out with the victory at 24.27. Junior Antoinette Loya followed at 24.29.
Loya bounced back by taking the 100-yard freestyle at 52.92, with sophomore Madison Grimes earning her first victory of the day in the 100-yard backstroke.
The 50-yard butterfly gave Vieira her second victory of the day with a time of 25.77 — almost one full second ahead of the second-place finisher Roepke.
Junior Kate Hanf added to the pounding with her first-place finish in the 100-yard individual medley.
SJSU concluded the meet with a team-victory in the 200-yard freestyle relay. Junior Katie McIntee, Sailors, Heng and Loya finished with a time of 1:37.57.
The Spartans look to continue their winning ways as they face UC Davis on Friday, January 25th at 2 p.m.
