The San Jose Sharks concluded its short back-to-back two-game road trip with a 4-0 loss to the St. Louis Blues on Friday.

Blues (6-5-3) goalie Chad Johnson made 33 saves and handed the Sharks (8-6-3) its second consecutive loss.

“The last two games haven’t been good,” head coach Peter DeBoer told the Associated Press in a postgame interview. “We’re not going to make more out of it than it is. We were playing some pretty good hockey up until the last two games.”

St. Louis got on the board first at 14:50 in the opening period. Alex Pietrangelo was left wide open in front of the Sharks net and scored his second goal of the season against Aaron Dell.

At 5:28 in the second, Ryan O’Reilly extended his point streak to nine games and made it 2-0 Blues.

Later in the period, Jaden Schwartz blew the game open with St. Louis’ third goal of the game at 13:57.

“It’s been horrible,” Logan Couture told the Associated Press in a postgame interview. “It’s not just the d-men, it’s forwards. It’s not good. It’s not good enough for American League level. It’s ugly right now.”

San Jose could not find any momentum as Alexander Steen extended the Blues’ lead to 4-0 at 12:21 in the third. Tyler Bozak recorded his second assist of the night.

Dell made 27 saves as the Sharks were shut out for only the second time this season.

“We never really got going,” Joe Pavelski told Louie Korac in a postgame interview. “We never found our game from the other night. Just the simple breakdowns, the getting out of the system, we see what happens. It can cost you.”

The Sharks will look to bounce back as they start a six-game home stand with the Calgary Flames on Sunday.
