SJSU concludes home stand with Lancers

San Jose State men’s soccer looks to continue its hot winning streak against California Baptist University on Sunday at Spartan Soccer Field.

The third-place Spartans (5-5-2, 3-1-1 WAC) will conclude their home stand against the 10th-place Lancers (5-7-1, 1-4-0 WAC).

CBU’s sophomore Judd Preston leads the team with 11 goals and 24 points in 13 games – good for first in the conference in both categories. Junior midfielder Sebastian Wiesbock stands on top with four assists.

Spartan goaltending will look to extinguish the CBU forward and the rest of the offense. Senior Alex Clewis ranks third in the Western Athletic Conference with 51 saves on the season.

Lancer head coach Coe Michaelson almost evenly uses both of his goalkeepers: sophomore Gage Rogers and junior Albert Escuin.

Rogers has allowed seven goals in six appearances, which is ranked first in the conference. Escuin has given up 12 goals in eight games.

An intimidating Spartan offense has a good chance of capitalizing against CBU’s defense as the team is third in the WAC with 83 shots.

Defender Omar Lemus leads the squad with four goals, 11 points and 25 shots (12 SOG). The sophomore and senior midfielder Jonathan Partida both have a team-high three assists.

The Spartans have good momentum going into Sunday’s match as they seek their third-straight win. The Lancers come to San Jose having lost five-consecutive games.

Kick-off is set for 2:30 p.m.
