Spartans clinch a pair of second-place finishes in Stockton

San Jose State women’s swimming and diving took home two second-place finishes as the team placed fifth overall in the Pac Invite with 345 points.

Senior Breanna Bushey secured the best-individual finish as she placed second in the 100-yard butterfly event with a time of 56.42.

In a team effort, SJSU’s best result came in the 200-yard freestyle relay. Senior Taylor Lehr, juniors Gabby Heng and Antoinette Loya and freshman Madelyn Sailors placed second at 1:36.78.

Hosted by the University of Pacific, the Spartans only competed in the second day of the meet and participated in eight varied distance events.

In the 400-yard medley relay, SJSU placed fourth and fifth out of 14 groups. Lehr, Heng, junior Violani Auva’A and freshman Angelika Yngson were a part of the fourth-place group.

Erin Wayman was the only Spartan to place in the top-10 in the 500-yard freestyle event. The junior finished with a time of 5:11.11 to rank ninth.

At 2:06.33, Auva’A earned a third-place finish in the 200-yard backstroke event. Junior Gabriela Vieira was not far behind and placed sixth at 2:08.73.

In the 100-yard freestyle event, four Spartans placed in the top-10. Heng finished sixth at 52.91, followed by junior Katie McIntee at 53.61, Lehr at 53.67 and Loya at 53.71.

Yngson was the first SJSU swimmer to finish in the 200-yard breaststroke event at 2:26.54. She placed seventh as freshman Chloe Limargo followed in suit at 2:26.76.

As for the 200-yard individual medley, four Spartans placed in the top-20. Auva’A led the way at 14th with a time of 2:12.82.

SJSU will travel to Bakersfield to compete in the CSUB Sprint Classic on Friday and Roadrunner Invitational on Saturday, October 20.
