Pina finishes 17th, cross country teams place 16th in Wisconsin

Jose Pina finished 17th out of 232 runners as both San Jose State men’s and women’s cross country placed 16th in the Adidas/Pre-Nationals Invitational in Madison, Wisc.

In the invite hosted by the Wisconsin Badgers, the junior crossed the finish line at 24:07.9 and was 0:13.9 seconds from first-place runner Rory Linkletter of BYU. His teammate, senior Craig Huff, placed 62nd with a time of 24:48.3.

As a whole, the men’s placed 16th out of 34 teams with a score of 447 points. The total time of the five SJSU runners was a little over 2 hours.

In the Cardinal race for the women’s squad, junior Jennifer Sandoval finished 35th with a time of 20:58.2. Sophomore Kai Bohannon was not far behind as she placed 40th at 21:01.3.

The women’s also placed 16th out of 35 teams with a score of 442 points. The five Spartan runners finished with a total time of 1:47:50.

Back in the Bay Area, three SJSU runners participated in the Santa Clara Bronco Invitational.

Javier Ubaldo was the only Spartan in the men’s race. The senior placed 161st with a time of 26:32.3.

Senior Carmen Contreras and junior Briana Valencia represented SJSU in the women’s race.

Contreras finished in 119th place at 22:12.7, followed by Valencia at 23:25.8 in 182nd place.

Up next for both squads is the Mountain West Championships in San Diego. The races will begin on Friday, October 26.
