San Jose State baseball looks to win its third straight series when it takes on New Mexico for a three-gamer starting Friday.

The Spartans (16-22, 6-11 MW) faced the Lobos (15-24, 8-13 MW) five times last season and finished 1-3-1 against them.

The red-hot Spartan offense has been the main contribution to their wins this season. Over their last nine games, they have gone 6-3 and have scored 74 runs in that same span.

The team has also won two-straight series for the first time since joining the Mountain West.

The seniors on the Spartan starting lineup have proven why they deserve to start. The five have combined for a .320 batting average and have knocked in 136 of the team’s 192 RBIs.

Senior left fielder Brett Bautista had his best series of the year against UC Riverside.

He went 8-for-16 with seven RBIs and two home runs in the rubber game against the Highlanders.

Senior right hander Josh Goldberg (2-5) will take the mound in game 1 for his ninth start of the season. In his last outing, he struck out four batters over 4.2 innings and allowed two runs. The Spartans are 1-7 when Goldberg starts.

In game 2, junior left hander Andrew Mitchel (4-0) looks to remain undefeated in his ninth start of the season. Mitchel is second in the conference with 61 strikeouts and holds a 3.90 ERA in conference play this season.

Lobo brothers freshman infielder Connor Mang and junior outfielder Jared Mang lead the team in runs, home runs, RBIs and slugging percentage. The outfielder is fifth in the conference with seven home runs.

The first pitch of the series is slated for Friday at 6 p.m. The second game is Saturday at 3 p.m. and the final game of the series is scheduled for Sunday at noon.
