Sharks blanked by Knights in Game 1

The San Jose Sharks took their first loss of the 2018 postseason with a 7-0 shutout. The loss came from the Vegas Golden Knights in Game 1 of Round 2 in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Both Vegas and San Jose were coming off of sweeps. San Jose against the Anaheim Ducks and Vegas against the Los Angeles Kings.

All seven goals in the high-scoring game were scored by different players from the Golden Knights, and three were during power-plays.

Vegas was hot on the board in the first period when three goals were scored in less than two minutes by Cody Eakin, Erik Haula and Jonathan Marchessault. Alex Tuch’s goal sent the Knights into the first intermission with a 4-0 lead.

Shea Theodore was the only player to score in the second period, giving Vegas its 5-0 advantage.

Colin Miller and James Neal’s goals in the third period gave the Knights their 7-0 win to shut the Sharks out at the T-Mobile Arena.

Golden Knights’ goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury earned his third postseason shutout and 13th of his professional career.

Despite the Sharks’ 33 shots on goal, Vegas’ defense did not allow any scoring. Vegas ended the night with 34 shots on goal.

San Jose goalie Martin Jones allowed five goals on 13 shots before he was replaced by backup goal-minder Aaron Dell in the second period.

The Knights scored twice on Dell who made 19 saves in the remainder of the game.

The Sharks stay in Vegas for Game 2 on Saturday at 5 p.m.
