San Jose State’s women’s track and field split up its team for three different outdoor meets in four days this week.
Starting off the week, the Spartans headed south to Azusa and participated in the Bryan Clay Invitational.
The only Spartan to participate in the first day of the meet was junior Kolbi Sims who competed in the heptathlon and placed in the No. 14 spot with a total of 5,017 points.
Overall, Sims finished the invitational in 27th out of 69 competitors.
Sims was 29 points short of breaking her career best of 5,045 points from the Mountain West Championship last season.
The highest scores Sims received were in the 100 meter hurdles. She earned 886 points, and matched her season-best time of 14.67.
The 200-meter dash was her next highest score with 850 points, placing her in the No. 7 spot for that event.
Heading into Thursday, the only other Spartan to participate in the Bryan Clay Invitational was junior Adilene Aldapa. She earned a 17:47.66 in the 5000-meter run.
The next meet to take place for the team was the Mt. SAC Relays in Torrance, Calif. where sophomore distance runner Jennifer Sandoval set a school record by finishing with a 16:35.66 time in the 5,000-meter race, beating the previous record of 16:35.74 set by Jennifer Beckingham.
Sandoval managed to set a school record despite the fact that she had tripped in the crowd of runners.
The Spartans are continuing to finish their meets at the Mt. SAC Relays and the Cardinal Classic in Stanford this weekend. Both meets will finish on Saturday, April 21.
