The high-scoring momentum continued for San Jose State softball as it clinched the series over Colorado State in Game 2 with an 11-4 victory.

The Spartans (27-14, 11-5 MW) recorded 11 runs on nine hits and held the Rams (23-14, 7-7 MW) scoreless after the third inning.

Freshman pitcher Caroline Bowman earned her 13th win on the season and only allowed two hits in four shutout innings.

SJSU jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the first inning on a bases-loaded walk that drove in senior shortstop Emma Entzminger.

In the second, the Rams took their first lead of the series with two runs on four hits.

After a sacrifice fly tied the game, freshman center fielder Ashley Michelena gave CSU a 2-1 lead on an RBI single.

The Spartans retaliated in the following frame with three runs. Sophomore first baseman Georgia Blair tied the game at two with an RBI double.

An error on Rams’ junior second baseman Sarah Muzik helped plate two more runs to make it 4-2 SJSU.

The lead didn’t stay intact for long as CSU responded with two runs and tied the game 4-4 after three innings.

Senior center fielder Brittany Abacherli gave the Spartans a 5-4 lead in the fifth inning with a two-out RBI single.

The squad added two key insurance runs in the sixth.

A pinch-hit double from freshman Grace Garvey drove in sophomore right fielder Kaelin Amrein for the first run. Blair struck again and followed with an RBI single that made it 7-4 SJSU.

The Spartans stayed sharp and tallied four more runs in the seventh for their best inning of the game, offensively.

After getting two runs from a pair of bases-loaded walks, freshman left fielder Desiree Reyes blew the game open with a two-run double.

The Spartans will aim for their third conference sweep in Sunday’s series finale. The game starts at 11 a.m.
