Women’s tennis sweeps, continues its strong play up north

San Jose State’s women’s tennis team won two matches up north over the weekend against Puget Sound, 7-0, and host University of Portland, 5-2.

The Spartans (7-2) breezed through the match against the Loggers (2-3), winning the doubles match and all six singles matches. Sophomore Tamara Culibrk, junior Miyo Kobayashi, freshman Jackie Wagner and freshman Savannah Sendar completed their singles competition with straight donut scores (6-0).

Culibrk and Wagner also completed the doubles three match with the only donut of the doubles matches against the Loggers. Doubles one and two however, were close behind with a 6-1 score.

While the match against the Loggers proved to be an easy win, the win against the Pilots had a different tone to it.

Against the Pilots, doubles one senior Sybille Gauvain and Sendar won their match 6-2, giving the Spartans a 1-0 lead into singles competitions.

Sendar, Gauvain, Kobayashi and Culibrk won their singles matches

SJSU has now won three straight dual matches.

The Spartans will have a home match against Cal Poly (3-6) March 3 at noon.
