San Jose State men’s basketball (7-19, 2-13 MW) came out on top vs Nevada (17-9, 9-6 MW) to break an eight-game losing streak with the help of sophomore forward Adrian Myers’ career night.
Myers delivered two season highs, 21 points and 13 rebounds to help power the Spartans to a key conference win.
The junior forward knocked down four 3-pointers to open the game and gave the Spartans an early spark from the perimeter.
Despite the scoring outburst and his season-best 13 rebounds, Myers said the win mattered more than the numbers.
“It feels pretty normal,” Myers said. “It really feels great to win. That’s what really feels great, is the win. I don’t really care about stats, but the win I care about.”
SJSU head coach Tim Miles said Myers’ impact went beyond the box score.
Miles praised Myers’ energy on the glass and his ability to stretch the floor.
“He was so quick to rebound the ball, he was a problem for everybody all night,” Miles said.
Miles also pointed to Myers’ shooting ability as a key factor in opening up the offense and helping junior guard Colby Garland earn 29 points of his own.
“When you get him inside out there early in a game and you start putting him in screening actions and him popping out for a three and they square up and make them, that puts a lot of pressure on the defense,” Miles said.
With his season highs in both scoring and rebounding, Myers provided one of his most complete performances of the year at a critical point in the season.
Myers and the Spartans will look to continue this momentum into their next game at 1 p.m. on Saturday at the ExtraMile Arena when they take on Boise State.
