Junior attacker Darcy Spark delivered a career performance with eight goals to lead No. 18 San Jose State (5-6, 0-0 MW) to a 13-9 win over Pomona-Pitzer (3-8, 1-0 SCIAC) at the Bronco Invitational in Santa Clara on Sunday.

The Spartans have now won five straight after opening the season 0-6 and sit at 5-6 overall.

“I saw a lot of good development with us individually, but also as a unit and a team,” SJSU head coach Beth Harberts said.

Spark scored the Spartans’ first goal of the morning and later sealed the victory with her eighth goal with 4:42 remaining in the fourth quarter.

Her eight goals surpassed her previous career-high of seven and accounted for more than half of the Spartans goals.

After trailing 2-1 at the end of the first quarter, the Spartans erupted for five goals in the second quarter to take control of the match.

Junior 2-meter Rose Jensen powered that surge with three goals in the second period alone.

Spark added two more goals before halftime to help SJSU carry a 6-4 lead into the break.

The third quarter belonged entirely to Spark, who scored all four Spartan goals in the period as SJSU built a comfortable cushion.

Junior attacker Jennine Osorio and sophomore 2-meter Bridget Cranley each added a goal to round out the scoring for the Spartans.

The Spartans closed the match with three goals in the fourth quarter to finish off the 13-9 victory.

SJSU return home to face Southern California on Feb. 21 at 1 p.m. at the SRAC.
