San Jose State women’s basketball (3-22, 1-13 MW) came up short against New Mexico (17-8, 9-5 MW) in a competitive 66-61 game on Wednesday.

The Spartans fought until the end in a tight game to keep this game close, but failed to win their first road game of the season.

Sophomore forward Maya Anderson was the team’s leading scorer tonight with 16 points, and following just behind was freshman center Gabriela Pato with 12 of her own.

The Spartans did a lot well in the loss; they were efficient from the field, scoring 47% from three and 44% overall.

The Lobos had a clear edge over the Spartans on the rebounding side of the ball, beating them 44-30.

“At the end of the game, they had too many rebounds and second chances,” SJSU head coach Jonas Chatterton said

The biggest gap was the offensive rebounds, as the Spartans had six total as a team, while the Lobos had 19, including eight from sophomore forward Jessie Joaquim

The Spartans will look to earn their first win on the road when they play Air Force at noon on Saturday, Feb. 14, at the Clune Arena in Colorado Springs, CO.
