San Jose State Softball (0-1) fell in its season opener against No. 20 ranked Oklahoma State (1-1) in a lopsided 9-0 game in Stanford, California.

The Spartans were limited to just three hits in the five innings and were unable to generate consistent offense against Oklahoma’s pitching.

Oklahoma finished with nine hits and took advantage of opportunities early to build a comfortable lead.

Freshman Sophia Burdick, and seniors Ahmiya Noriega, and Shay McDowell were the only Spartans to get a spark going offensively, each going 1-for-2 at the plate.

Oklahoma State struck early taking a 6-0 lead in the first inning to set the tone before adding three more runs over the next four innings.

Oklahoma’s offense was led by seniors Melina Wilkison and Amanda Hasler, who combined for three runs which helped Oklahoma come away with its first win of the season.

Freshman Delaney Faus made her first career start today for the Spartans as she pitched three innings before junior Jordyn Fray provided two scoreless innings.

SJSU will seek their first win of the season as they play against No. 17 ranked Stanford at 5 p.m. later today at Stanford.
