San Jose State’s women’s basketball team (0-6) continue to stay winless after being defeated 80-54 against No. 21 ranked Washington (8-0) on Monday.
The game fell into Washington’s favor from the very beginning, as SJSU did not lead throughout the entire game, going down by as many as 28 points.
After trailing 14-10 at the end of the first quarter, the Huskies started to run away with the game, outscoring the Spartans 26-11 in the second quarter.
Washington junior guard Sayvia Sellers scored 13 points in the second quarter, more than the entire SJSU team scored in the quarter.
Sellers would finish the game leading all scorers with 29 points on 9/16 shooting and 5/10 from behind the arc.
Poor shooting once again plagued the Spartans in this game as they shot 30.6% from the field and 28% from three, while the Huskies shot 45.2% from the field and 40.9% from three.
Freshman forward Gabriella Pato led SJSU with 11 points while redshirt sophomore guard Maya Anderson was right behind her with 10 points.
SJSU did have a little hop during the third quarter as that was its most productive quarter, shooting 9/16 from the field and 4/8 from three.
The Spartans would then follow up that third quarter performance with their worst quarter of the game, scoring eight points on 3/16 shooting and no threes made on five shots.
SJSU will travel home in hopes of getting its first win against Saint Mary’s at 7 p.m. on Dec. 4 at the Provident Credit Union Event Center.
