San Jose State cross country hits its stride at the Bronco Invitational on Saturday morning in Sunnyvale, capping it off with multiple personal bests and solid team finishes as both squads look ahead to the Mountain West Conference Championships.

As the season approaches an end with the upcoming Mountain West Conference Championships, assistant coach David Verburg is confident in both teams.

“San Jose State track and field had a great showing on the men and women’s side,” Verburg said. “We had multiple PRs on both sides. This is right where we want to be as a program.”

The Spartan men finished 11th overall in the 8K race, led by junior Alexander Walker, who clocked a 24:55.0 to place 46th out of 180 runners.

Crossing the line next for SJSU was junior Will Bujake in 25:12.2, while freshman Joel Nickerson (25:41.7), freshman Brandon Wofford (25:51.2) and sophomore Diego Cortes (26:17.6) also contributed to the Spartans final score of 306.

On the women’s side, SJSU placed 15th with a score of 441 in the 6K.

Leading the pack was junior Amanda Chalburg who finished with a 22:00.1 for 56th place out of 151 competitors.

Rounding out the women’s scores were senior Isabela Arreola (23:04.2), junior Nereyda Alvarez-Gonzalez (23:38.8), freshman Elizabeth Scott (23:41.6) and sophomore Malia Seki (23:58.7).

Next up, the Spartans will look to put their best foot forward in the Mountain West Conference Championships on Oct. 31.
