San Jose State women’s volleyball (8-10, 3-4 MW) lost a nail-biter to Boise State (13-5, 5-2 MW) 3-2 on Thursday at the Bronco Gym in Boise, Idaho.
The Spartans started the match off slow, losing the first two sets to nearly end their night early.
However, with the score tied 23-23 in the third set, two straight scores from SJSU sparked a run, helping them win that third set to stay alive.
In set four they were even better. Despite giving up the first goal, they never trailed after that, easing their way to a 25-19 win in the set.
With the match tied at two sets each, and momentum on their side, they stalled out in the fifth and final set.
While trailing 6-5 in the fifth set, Boise State caught fire, scoring seven straight points to push their lead to 13-5.
SJSU would try to mount another comeback, scoring three straight points, but they would fall short as the Broncos would take the fifth set 15-9.
Despite the loss, junior setter Fatimah Hall would tie her career-high in assists during the match, with 47.
She previously set her career-high on Aug. 25, 2023 against Cal State Fullerton, while she was with San Diego State.
After the match, SJSU head coach Todd Kress had some positive comments about the team.
“I am so proud of this team to push this match to five,” Kress said. “It’s great to be able to get the production that we did off the bench, we just have to take advantage of opportunities when we get them in fifth sets.”
The Spartans will travel back home to face Fresno State at 1 p.m. on Oct. 18 at the Spartan Gym.
