The Spartans (17-20) ended their two-game losing streak with the win against California (26-11) 3-1 at home.
Reina Zermeno showed out offensively, scoring all three runs for the Spartans.
“She’s been struggling a little bit,” head coach Tammy Lohmann said. “But today it was like Reina is back.”
The final run scored today was Zermeno’s home run into deep left field after her two doubles earlier in the game.
“I haven’t felt this happy after a game in a long time to be honest,” Zermeno said.
The Spartan pitcher Lacie Ham was able to keep the Bears to one run in the five innings she pitched.
“Ham did a phenomenal job on the mound and then Mia (Mia Reynolds) just came in and closed the door,” Lohmann said.
The Spartans are now heading into a three-game series against Nevada at home, the first game this Friday at 6 p.m.
