San Jose State softball (15-18, 4-5 MW) could not close out the game as it lost to Fresno State (22-11, 6-2 MW) 8-5 losing the series 2-1.
The Spartans played very well early on, as they had a 4-1 lead at the top of the fourth inning.
However, the Bulldogs would go on to score seven unanswered runs in their next three innings, which would overwhelm the Spartans as they would only score one more run as junior infielder Reina Zermeno would get her fifth home run of the year at the top of the seventh inning.
“We were right there. We just got to be a little better in little areas,”head coach Tammy Lohmann said. “We need to be as competitive as we can be.”
Zermeno and senior outfielder Jules Ronquillo would lead the team in scoring as they both had two runs while junior infielder Ahmiya Noriega would score one run.
