San Jose State baseball (10-6, 0-0 MW) started their first game against San Diego State (4-13, 0-0 MW) with a loss this Saturday afternoon.
Last match the team also struggled with both their defense and offense when they played Cal Poly as they lost 18-4.
Right off the bat San Diego took an early lead that the Spartans weren’t able to catch up to.
By the time it came to the top of the third the Spartans still had no points up and the Aztecs were up 8-0.
The Spartans managed to get a late run and RBI from junior Raoul Fabian Jr in the seventh inning.
Another offensive leader for the Spartans was redshirt sophomore Neil Jansen.
Pitching for the Spartans was Jesse Gutierrez (3-2) who took the loss.
Although the Spartans struggled the first couple innings as they were able to catch up they kept working and managed to get five hits and one run by the end of the game.
“Tough one here tonight in San Diego,” SJSU head coach Brad Sanfilippo said. “We will come back tomorrow”.
Up next the Spartans will rematch San Diego State on Sunday, at Tony Gwynn Stadium.
