San Jose State Softball (14-16, 3-3 MW) was beaten by Colorado State (12-17, 3-3 MW) 3-0 on Sunday.

SJSU had zero runs, four hits and one error compared to the three runs, six hits and one error from Colorado State.

“Sunday’s games come down to timely hitting,” SJSU head coach Tammy Lohmann said. “We just got to get better on Sundays. Sunday is a grind.”

Spartans senior pitcher Mia Reynolds started off strong by shutting down the Rams offense only allowing one hit.

Both teams through the first three innings did not allow any runs.

Center fielder Aubrie Thomas caught a ball that helped stop the three outs for the Rams.

Thomas also went 1-for-3, with only one successful hit in the three at-bats.

“The pitcher’s change-up was very good and my adjustment in the batter’s box was to take the change-up until I had to swing at it.” Thomas said.

The Rams had scored a run after a successful hit, allowing sophomore Jaliey Wilson to score, 1-0.

Along with fellow Rams Jac Smith and Kyra Smith scored, having them take a bigger lead.

However, Reynolds and the Spartans’ defense took charge by not allowing any more runs in the fourth inning.

“My mindset going in today was just to give my all and let my defense work.” Reynolds said, “Just trust that my team has my back.”

Third base Gigi Ortega helped by stopping the Rams from gaining another run while working with teammate Carly Cummings by taking out the runner on third base.

In the seventh inning the Spartans found a bit of their momentum as senior infielder Taylor Squires singled to left field and then junior infielder Ahmiya Noriega singled to center field.

Despite that, the Spartans were not able to score any runs and lost to the Rams.

“We always have to come Sunday harder and even if we won the series, it does not mean we can sit back.” Thomas said, “We need to keep pushing and play Spartans softball.”

SJSU is scheduled to play against Fresno State at 6 p.m. Thursday in Fresno.
