San Jose State softball (5-5) extended its win streak to five by defeating UC San Diego (2-7) 8-1.
The home crowd had much to cheer for, as the Spartans took the early lead in the second inning after a home run by freshman catcher Sarah Deplitch.
The Spartans remain undefeated at home, standing at 5-0 at the Spartan Softball Complex.
“Attack early, see good pitches, and results will come,” Deplitch said.
Deplitch capped off her performance with two total runs and RBIs.
“I’ve seen her hit a lot of home runs; she continued to work on her craft and continued to get better,” SJSU softball head coach Tammy Lohmann said.
The Spartans showed no signs of slowing down, as they put up five runs in the bottom of the third inning.
“This field is a hard yard to hit a home run out of; you’re looking at 235 fences,” Lohmann said.
The Spartan’s batting rotation was everywhere, as seven players got a hit.
“We all just tried to work and see good pitches each time,” Deplitch said.
San Diego struggled to score runs. The Triton’s first run came in the fifth inning.
The Tritons were in a similar situation after being shut out last Friday in San Jose.
San Jose will now get ready for the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic, where they will play five matches in Cathedral City.
“It’s gonna be competitive, some great teams, the atmosphere, we just gotta go back to doing the little things, and they’re gonna help us next weekend,” Lohmann said.
