San Jose State women’s tennis suffered its first loss of the season after being swept by Cal Poly 4-0.

The Spartans struggles started right off the bat, losing both doubles matches.

SJSU sophomore Cheuk Ying Shek and senior Carla Urchoeguia couldn’t get the job done, losing their doubles set to junior Kennedy Buntrock and senior Romane Mosse 6-3.

Senior Mustang Peyton Dunkle and her sophomore partner Amy Leather took out Spartan senior Olaya Bances Iglesias and her freshman partner Emma Fantousis 6-1.

“(We had) too many errors and Cal Poly (had a) good home crowd (and) they took it to us,” SJSU head coach Chad Skorupka said in a video posted to SJSU Athletics.

Cal Poly freshman Jessica MacCallum sealed the match for the Mustangs with her singles victory against Fantousis, who lost two back to back sets.

Each sets in singles play for the Mustangs were won back to back.

Iglesias was defeated by junior Mustang Alexandra Ozerets , losing both sets 6-1.

Spartan sophomore Duru Durgun was shut out completely by Dunkle, not winning a single game within either set losing both 6-0.

“We need to recharge, get back (and) focus,” Skorupka said.

Following the loss, the Spartans plan to bounce back as they are scheduled to host Saint Mary’s at noon on Thursday with their mind set on defending home court.
