Women’s Swim and Dive Team Earns First Win of Their Season

San Jose State swim and dive finished first out of three teams Saturday at the Slug Recreation Complex at U.C. Santa Cruz. SJSU competed against UC Santa Cruz and the University of the Pacific. 

The Spartans got at least third in 12 of their events while winning 11 of them.

SJSU sophomore Mya Azzopardi won the 200m and 100m freestyle with a time of 1:52.51 and 51.81. 

Spartans sophomore Vilma Lindberg won the 200-yard breaststroke and the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:19.37 and 1:04.40 respectively. 

SJSU senior Ellie Shorten also won multiple events, including the 100-yard and 200-yard backstroke events, with times of 57.70 and 2:04.45, respectively. 

The team also placed first, second and fourth in the 200-yard Medley relay and first and fourth in the 400-yard freestyle relay. 

SJSU posted 162 points while the second-placed team, the University of the Pacific, was able to manage 88 points and third-place UC Santa Cruz posted only 30 points.

SJSU’s next meet is at 2:00 p.m. on Nov. 8 at the Schaal Aquatics Center at U.C. Davis.
