With their last win being Sept. 28, 2023, San Jose State’s women’s soccer (1-12-5, 1-6-3) broke the streak and took their first win of the season defeating Air Force (5-9-3, 1-7-2) 1-0 Sunday morning at the Cadet Soccer Stadium.

The winning goal came from senior forward Bella Flocchini straight for the bottom right of the net, with an assist from senior defender Evan House in the 12th minute.

The goal, which kept the Spartans on top throughout the game, was Flocchini’s third of the season and 12th of her career, according to the SJSU Athletics website

“They haven’t been rewarded for some of the really good games that we played, they just haven’t put it away,” SJSU head coach Tina Estrada said in a video posted on the SJSU Athletics website. “Today we put it away.”

SJSU put up seven shots throughout and Air Force put up 19. With Falcons sophomore midfielder Chase Borntreger coming on top with six shots.

Senior goalkeeper Shayla Sugai protected the net with four saves while offensive strength came from Taylor Phillips, Tiana Cello and Kayla Fortenberry who each had one shot on target.

Senior defender Iliana Jasso and sophomore defender Kyah Coady also took one shot each.

“Now we’re back at it for our last home game against Fresno,” Estrada said.

The final game, senior night, will be a special night as the Spartans have 15 seniors on their roster.

The Spartans will look for their final chance to score another win at home against Fresno State scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday at the Spartan Soccer Complex.
