SJSU wins three events across two days at the CSUB sprint classic and Invitational

The Spartans finished third out of six teams with a combined score of 334 at the CSUB Sprint Classic at John S. Hillman Aquatic Center on Oct. 11-12. . 

Sophomore Quincy Key won the 50m freestyle event with a tying first-place time of 23.80. 

The 200m relay team of Lais Gasparini e Silva, Dalton Sickon and Keira Vail placed first with a time of 1:33.80. 

This was the Spartans’ best result of their early season. The two previous meets saw the Spartans finish fifth out of six teams. 

There were more notable performances from SJSU as four other Spartans finished in the top five of their respective races. 

Ellie Shorten finished third in the 100m backstroke with a time of 57.16. Vilma Lindberg was second in both the 100m and 50m breaststroke with a 1:04.24 and a 29.69 respectively. 

Veronica Gourley finished fourth in the 100m butterfly and fifth in the 50m butterfly with times of 57.34 and 25.90 respectively. Silva also finished third in the 50m freestyle with a time of 23.87. 

The Spartans continued into Saturday finishing fourth in team standings with a score of 235. 

Sickon won the 50m freestyle with a time of 23.80 while teammate Quincy Key placed third with a time of 24.02. 

Mya Azzopardi finished second in both the 200m free and the 100m with times of 1:52.76  51.98 respectively. 

Finally, Shorten finished third in the 200m backstroke with a time of 2:03.07.

The Spartans will swim next at noon on 10/26 at the Slug Recreation Complex East Santa Cruz.
