San Jose State men’s soccer (3-5-6, WAC 2-1-2) was shut out 3-0 by Cal Baptist (3-4-5, WAC 2-1-1) on Thursday night.

SJSU had few opportunities in the first half at goal with five shots and two coming on target.

The Spartans were hit early in the fourth minute by a corner kick that sophomore midfielder Drew Hardin hit into the back of the net.

“We started slow and never really got going,” head coach Simon Tobin said.

SJSU’s first half woes continued in the 26th minute with a second goal from Hardin that extended the lead for Cal Baptist.

The Spartans had a good offensive showing in the second half with 11 shots but no goals to show for it.

SJSU had no answer for Cal Baptist’s clinical offense the entire night, concluding with a goal in the 87th minute by freshman forward Blake D’Agostino.

The best offensive production for SJSU came from sophomore midfielder Angel Fernandez, who had two shots on target.

This was the Spartans’ second-largest defeat of the season, behind a 4-0 loss to San Francisco on Sep. 23.

“Only thing we can do is lick our wounds and get ready for San Diego State,” Tobin said.

SJSU will look to return to the winning column against San Diego State scheduled for 3 p.m. Sunday at the Snapdragon Stadium.
