Dalton Bowling made San Jose State history in its 17-8 win over Air Force with his three-RBI day. Bowling is now SJSU’s all-time RBI leader with 148, passing Kyle Bellows who had 146.
The Falcons (20-25, 12-11 MW) got into some bad luck early against the Spartans (19-26, 14-12 MW) thanks to Theo Hardy’s first ever inside-the-park-home-run.
San Jose didn’t stop pouring on the runs, scoring in five consecutive innings. It built up a 9-1 lead by the bottom of the fifth thanks to a three-run homer by Hardy. Hardy finished the day with two home runs and seven RBI’s.
Air Force scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth and tried to crawl back but the deficit was too much to overcome.
SJSU put the game to bed in the ninth inning after Jeriah Lewis, Hunter Dorraugh and Hardy all hit two-RBI singles.
The Spartans had a season-high 21 hits and the most since they faced off against Air Force in May 22, 2022 where they finished with 27 hits. The 17 runs mark a season high as the bats have been starting to heat up towards the end of the season.
Micky Thompson started the game and got through six innings while giving up three runs on two strikeouts. The Falcons went through five pitchers and they all gave up at least two runs.
“Everybody offensively had a hit today which was huge,” SJSU head coach Brad Sanfilippo said. “We needed double-digit runs here and a performance like that to give us a little bit of room.”
San Jose State has one last game left in against the Falcons in Colorado at 11 a.m. to decide the series winner.
