San Jose State (15-27, 4-14 MW) capped of senior weekend with a 5-2 loss against UNLV (29-16, 12-7 MW).

The Spartan bats were silent all game managing just three hits and unable to get much offense going in this matchup.

SJSU got itself in a jam early as junior pitcher Mia Reynolds left the game in the first inning without recording an out. Luckily it was able to limit the bases-loaded jam to just one run. Reynolds has struggled this season for San Jose as she has recorded 14 of the Spartans’ 27 losses.

This was a game in which San Jose honored its five seniors Makenzie Hutchinson, Korie Thomas, Malia Luna, Adrianna Noriega and Ashley Rico.

Rico’s lone hit of the day was a solo home run. Her second long ball of the season to cap off her final home game as a Spartan. Luna would also have a base hit in the matchup with a single to cap off a 1 for 2 day.

“To just have fun with no regrets, the games taught and given me so much,” Rico said. “We have a bunch of talent, as long as we have fun, we can win.”

San Jose was in a very different position in its final home series just a year ago. It capped off 2023 with a fourth place finish in the Mountain West but currently find themselves in last place.

“Just to have fun and not make the moment bigger than it is and to just have fun,” head coach Tammy Lohmann said. “Rico continues to raise the bar of our standards and has been a great asset to our program.

The Spartans will look to end their season on a high note on the road scheduled to play at 3 p.m. Thursday against the Utah State Aggies.
