San Jose track and field compete in two different invitationals

San Jose State track and field were split between two different invitationals this past weekend. Sprints, hurdles, jumps and throws competed in the Stanford Invitational in Palo Alto, Calif. while the distance crew competed at the Mike Fanelli Track Classic in Hayward, Calif.

Stanford Invitational Day One:

Jeremiah Walker and Jaden Smith led the Spartans on day one earning top five finishes. Smith finished first in the men’s 200 dash in 20.90 seconds. Walker finished second with a time of 20.93 seconds.

Smith also took third in the 400 dash with a time of 47.27 seconds.

Demaris Waters and Malachi Snow earned themselves a pair of top five finishes as well. Waters won his 110 hurdles prelim heat in 13.87 seconds.

Snow also won his 110 hurdles prelim heat in 14.16 seconds. Snow took another first place victory in the 100 dash prelim with a time of 10.51 seconds.

Waters and Snow both qualified for the second day in their respective categories.

On the women’s side, Sky Hagan finished on top in the 100 hurdles prelim with a time of 13.67 seconds. Morgan Little finished second in the same event with a time of 12.04 seconds. Both of them qualified for the second day.

Day Two:

Snow stole the show finishing in first place in the 110-meter hurdles and the 100-meter dash. He finished the hurdles in 13.50 seconds and 15 minutes later, he finished the 100-meter dash in 10.27 seconds.

Waters finished right behind Snow in the hurdles with a time of 13.66.

Little ran a lifetime-best 11.67 in the women’s 100-meter dash.

Hagan finished third in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 13.37.

“Big life time best for Morgan little in the 100-meter final,” SJSU head coach Charles Ryan said. “Ultimately the Stanford invite 2024 is the arrival of Malachi Snow.”

Mike Fanelli Track Classic Day One:

Ashton Headley took fifth place in men’s shot put with a put of 13.51 meters. Christopher Malone finished eighth in the 400 meter with a time of 50.90.

Day Two:

Headley built off his momentum from the first day and finished fourth in the men’s hammer throw. He finished 55.45 meters.

Christopher Malone was one of many Spartans who participated in the men’s 800 meter. He finished sixth in his section with a time of 1:52.83. He finished 31st out of 213 participants.

SJSU head to Berkeley, Calif. on April 5-6 in the Brutus Hamilton Invitational hosted by Cal.
