San Jose State (11-13, 2-1 MW) lost a doubleheader in a non-conference matchup against LMU (14-14, 0-0 WCC) Saturday afternoon.

Game 1:

San Jose put up just one run on five hits. This lack of offensive power resulted in the team’s loss.

The Spartans struggled at the plate as they struck out eight times and drew just two walks against the Lions.

Senior pitcher Jenna Perez put on a dominant performance for the Lions pitching a complete game for the Lions striking out eight batters and allowing five hits.

Junior pitcher Mia Reynolds struggled in the circle for the Spartans allowing five runs in four innings while walking three batters. Reynolds also allowed two home runs on the afternoon from sophomore Izzy Jamgotchian and graduate student Elisa Rosado.

A positive for San Jose is it allowed just one error, a part of the game that has hurt the team this season.

Game 2:

The Spartans were shutout 5-0 getting four hits while drawing just one walk in the loss.

Freshman pitcher Alexis Toner pitched six innings in the circle striking out five batters and didn’t allow any walks.

Sophomore Reina Zermeno had a solid day for the Spartans going 3-6 on the afternoon. Zermeno continues to show why she will be a key factor as the team’s best batter; hitting .357 this season.

The Spartans need to find a way of getting baserunners to score as they left a combined 12 runners on base in both matchups.

San Jose now drops two games under .500 and will look to cap off the series with a win Sunday at noon.
