The Bandon Dunes Championship was canceled Monday due to rain losing San Jose State men’s golf an opportunity to complete its high finish in the tournament.

The three-round tournament was scheduled to start Sunday and run through Tuesday.

Rain forced the first round to be postponed until Monday, shortening the tournament from 54 to 36 holes had it been played.

The Spartans were in third place after 10 holes when play was stopped. They were just 6-strokes behind leader Utah.

Mother nature washed away a performance from not only the Spartans, but also from freshman Keshav Mungali who competed as an individual.

He was 2-under par and in a two-way tie for fourth place when rain halted play.

The tournament, hosted by the University of Idaho at Bandon Dunes Resort Pacific Dunes Course in Bandon, Ore., got underway Monday before the rain arrived.

SJSU was coming off a pair of 12th place finishes in the last two tournaments. The Bandon Dunes Championship was a missed opportunity for San Jose State to get its first top-four finish since the Ka’anapali Classic Collegiate Invitational last October.

SJSU’s next event is the Oregon Duck Invitational which is scheduled for March 25-26 at Eugene Country Club in Eugene, Ore.
