SJSU Beach Volleyball Dominate at Pacific University Invitational

San Jose State beach volleyball (4-5) took both series against University of Pacific (0-9) Thursday afternoon in Stockton, Calif. with a 4-1 victory in the first dual and 5-0 sweep in the second. The Spartans had all-around great scores with only two games going to a third set.

Sophomore Teila Allen and senior Cheyenne Rice won both sets with scores of 21-17 and 21-12 to win the first dual. In the second dual, they would dominate winning by a score of 21-11 in both sets.

Senior Jaida Ward and junior Jada Hall would go to a third set but handled their dual well with scores of 21-17, 23-20, 15-10. They would have a better second dual winning 21-12 and 21-13 in two sets.

Siena Brewster and sophomore Meredith Scott won in two sets with a 21-13 in the first set and 22-20 in the second. In the second dual, they would come out with a score of 21-17 and 21-8. 

Junior Shirley Morrison and graduate student Tessa Rogers would go on to lose the first dual with both sets being a score of 21-19. But in the second dual, Junior Jaena Bell and Freshmen Alexandra Dale would win with scores of 21-10, 18-21, 15-8. 

“Really strong performances especially from Alexandra Dale and Jaena Bell which won their first match as a pair and clinched the second dual for us and Jada Hall and Jaida Ward who are dynamic and dominant as they always are,” SJSU head coach Gary Hodge said. 

The Spartans look to prepare for the Inaugural Sand Jose Invitational which is set to host Utah, Sacramento State, Texas Corpus Christi, Saint Mary’s, and American River College on March 16-17 in San Jose, Calif.
