San Jose State softball (9-10) won its second game of the weekend against North Dakota State (10-17) 2-1 in the final game of the Silicon Valley Classic II.

Sophomore second baseman Reina Zermeno hit the walk-off single to right field in the bottom of the seventh to bring in freshman Haley Reeve for the game-winning run.

Pitching was on point for the Spartans as they allowed just one run on three hits over seven innings.

Junior starting pitcher Mia Reynolds surrendered the only run of the game, while giving up two hits over 3 2/3 innings of play.

Freshman Alexis Toner came in relief of Reynolds throwing 3 1/3 innings pitched of shoutout softball allowing just one hit in her appearance.

Spartan pitchers combined for eight strikeouts while walking four Bison batters.

San Jose State had a strong day at the plate as the team got nine hits in the game three of which came from junior Aubrie Thomas in four at bats.

The Spartans kept the ball in play as they never struck out in the matchup.

SJSU won three of its five games on the weekend defeating North Dakota State twice. San Jose beat the Bison 4-3 on Saturday.

“Pitchers stepped up and played solid defense,” SJSU softball head coach Tammy Lohmann said.

San Jose State will stay at home as they will start conference play against New Mexico at 6 p.m. on Friday.
