San Jose State’s Emilia Sjostrand and Sky Hagan represented the Track and Field team at the NCAA Indoor Championships in Boston, Mass. from March 8-9.

Sjostrand became the first All-American woman in San Jose State track and field history and set a new school record in the triple jump.

The Swedish native came in as the number 1 seed in the triple jump and the 10th in the long jump whereas Hagan came in as 14th in women’s hurdles according to SJSU head coach Charles Ryan.

“Our women’s program is ranked number 25 in the country which is the first time that’s ever happened,” Ryan said.

To start off, Hagan had a DNF. However, this being her first year, a top 16 hurdler is nothing to be ashamed of.

Sjostrand went on to finish 11th in the long jump to end the Spartans’ day. She finished with a mark of 6.27 meters, third best in school history.

On her second day madness ensued and it didn’t take long. In her first jump Sjostrand set a school record in the triple jump with a 13.93 meter jump. She broke that same record in her next attempt with a mark of 13.98.

“She went from meltdown her freshman year, seventh place her sophomore year and second place her junior year and its only going to get better from here,” Ryan said.

Up next, San Jose will meet up with their teammates at the Stanford’s Cardinal Classic on March 18 to kick off the outdoor season.
