San Jose State tennis (4-0) remains undefeated after a win against Saint Mary’s (3-3) by a score of 4-3.

The Spartans victory is in large part due to freshman Cheuk Ying Shek and Senior Irena Muradyan.

Ying Shek and Muradyan handily won their doubles match only losing two games. The pair still remain undefeated on the season in doubles play.

In their respective singles matches, Ying Shek and Muradyan continued to dominate. They both made quick work of their opponents, achieving victory in two sets.

The doubles pairing of freshman Duru Durgun and senior Rozalina Youseva also came up clutch for the team. After seniors Carolina Milan and Jovana Babic lost their match, the three-seed Durgun and Youseva needed to win so that the Spartans would not go into the singles matches down one point.

Even after losing the first three games of the match, Durgun and Youseva were able to keep their composure, winning three straight games on their way to a 6-4 win.

Heading into the final matches of singles, SJSU possessed a 3-0 lead.

Gaels junior Olivia Rook looked to spur a comeback after defeating Babic in a hard-fought three sets.

In a crucial third set of her singles match, Millan exploded for six-straight games resulting in a win. Millan’s singles win gave SJSU the final point needed to clinch the match.

“Senior Carolina Milan came through in the third set 6-2, good team effort,” SJSU head coach Chad Skorupka said.

SJSU will hope to stay undefeated in their next match against CSU Fullerton on Feb. 23 at 1:30 p.m.
