San Jose State women’s golf competed this past weekend at the Therese Hession Regional Challenge at Palos Verdes Golf Club.

The tournament was initially set to be stroke play, but got changed to match play due to rainy weather conditions in Southern California.

On Saturday, SJSU defeated No. 15 Clemson in the first round with a final score of 3-1-1. Kajsa Arwefjäll, Moa Andersson and Rebecca Gyllner won their matches.

In the second round of match play against No. 1 Wake Forest, the Spartans fell to a final score of 2-0-3.

“The team fought really hard,” SJSU women’s golf head coach Dana Dormann said. “I’m really proud of the team for fighting hard. It’s a good way to start out our spring.”

The team matched up against No. 7 Oregon during the third round on Sunday, finishing 3-2 with wins from Arwefjäll and Gyllner.

Gyllner led the way after a first hole tie, while Arwefjäll maintained a lead after seven straight ties.

The final day of play was canceled Monday due to over four inches of rain hitting the area. The Spartans were set to compete against No. 4 UCLA.

Although the tournament was cut short, the Spartans played at a high level of competition with all three of their matchups being top 15 teams.

Up next, SJSU women’s golf will travel to Hawaii for the Pac-12 Preview from Feb. 19-21 at the Nanea Golf Course.
