SJSU women’s volleyball has dropped its fifth straight match, being swept 3-0 by Boise State, losing seven consecutive sets dating back to a Nov. 4 loss against Wyoming.

Even with the return of senior Jiana Lawson, who went down with an ankle injury during the Wyoming loss, and the second game back for junior Blaire Flemming, SJSU still couldn’t withstand the Boise State barrage.

The Spartans were outscored 25-19, 25-22 and 25-17 in their final away game, being swept for the second consecutive game and losing both games in the season series with the Broncos.

Flemming, in her second game back from injury, had a team-leading six kills along with freshman Nayelli Ti’a.

Spartans’ junior Alessia Buffagni led the match with 13 digs on defense. SJSU’s junior Brooke Slusser recorded her seventh double-double this season with 12 assists and 10 digs.

Lawson led the Spartans with five blocks in her return to the court.

The Spartans were noticeably still short on depth, only eight Spartan players stepped on the court today.

Notable absences include senior Letizia Cammillucci, who has been out with an ankle injury since an Oct. 26 match at Fresno State, freshman Selin Ozdemir, freshman Mari Lawton and junior Alyssa Bjork.

SJSU’s injury-prone season has left its record at 12-17, with a measly 3-13 conference record in the Mountain West.

The Spartans have won one of their last 12 conference matches, putting them at the bottom of the conference alongside Nevada, whose conference record is also 3-13.

SJSU will return home for its final homestand, starting with a match vs. UNLV at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 14 at the Spartan Gym.
