SJSU Cross Country season ends at the Mountain West Championship

San Jose State cross country team competed in the Mountain West Championship Friday morning in Boise, Idaho. This is the team’s final race this outdoor cross-country season.  

The men’s cross country team finished 8th out of 9 teams with a score of 256. 

During the men’s 8k, senior Amelie Chio led the men’s 8k race coming in with a time of 25:46. This is the third time out of the five races that Choi has led the team. 

Following behind Chio was junior Michael Chadwick who came in with a time of 27:04. Chadwick recently participated in the Bronco Invitational, where he set his personal best record time of 25:56. 

The women’s cross country team finished 11th out of 11 teams with a score of 333. 

During the women’s 6k race, freshman Amanda Chalburg led the team coming in with a time of 22:34. This is only three seconds slower than her last invitational time of 22:31. 

Sophomore Constance O’Neal followed closely behind with a time of 23:02. O’Neal is another Spartan who also participated at the Bronco Invitational where she set a personal best record of 21:59. 

“We had several highlights throughout this season and I can’t be prouder for the athletes. It was an exciting season,” SJSU head coach Charmaine Darden said.

“Just looking to, you know, take what we learned from this year as far as the racing, race tactics and training, the competitive mentality and move forward into indoor,” Darden said.
