In a Round of 32 matchup, Shek defeated Elena Mercioiu from Sacramento State in three sets. Shek won the first game 7-6, lost the second 4-6 and won the last one 6-3.
In her final set, Shek would suffer a two-set loss to the second seed out of Stanford, Alexandra Yepifanova. The scores of the sets were 6-3 & 6-2.

Head coach Chad Skorupka said he loved the fight he saw out of his squad.
“Overall [I am] really impressed with how we competed,” Skorupka said. “Two long days, now we look to get back, rest and look forward to competing in our last event shortly.
Out of the eight players entered for SJSU, six would advance past the first round. Freshman Duru Durgan would make it to the final 32.
