Spartans put on a dominant performance at the Mangrum invitational

SJSU track and field traveled to San Marcos for the Mangrum invitational where the Spartans put on their best performance of the outdoor season so far.

The side dawning blue and gold secured a total of 10 first-place finishes in addition to several other third and second-place finishes.

Kicking off the women’s side of action was graduate student Sophie Liao who took captured first place in women’s 100-meter and 200-meter dash with times of 11.64 and 24.21 seconds.

Sophomore Osayi Omorodion followed up the pair of top finishes with one of her own, winning the women’s 100 hurdles with a mark of 13.47 seconds.

With three first-place finishes already secured, SJSU’S aggressive running was only beginning to heat up.

In the women’s 4×100 meter, the squad of freshman Sharli’e McCullerAlyssa Bean, Kaylen Fletcher and junior Gabby Spencer took first place with a time of 45.41 seconds.

The Spartans also took first in the women’s 4×400 meter with a time of 3:44.33 seconds as junior Sarah Mosteller and freshmen Aliyah Williams paired with freshman fletcher and bean secured the win.

On the men’s side of the action, the top finishes continued as freshman Demaris Waters claimed first in the men’s 110 hurdles with a mark of 14.04 seconds.

Freshman Christopher Coats continues to shine in his first season as a Spartan securing a first-place finish in the men’s 200 dash with a time of 21.09 seconds.

Coats and fellow freshman Cameron Tarver, who won the men’s 100m dash, also helped secure first-place finishes in the 4×100 and 4×400 relays.

No matter the season, the freshman class of runners on this team continues to show their potential, as well as rapid improvement with every single event.

Coach Charles Ryan spoke on his team’s massive performance after the event.
