Spartans collect several podium finishes in San Diego

SJSU traveled to San Diego for the Aztec Invitational where several Spartans managed to secure top finishes in multiple events after dominating in the Mangrum invitational just one day prior.

Starting out on the men’s side of action, freshman Demaris Waters took fourth place in the 110m hurdles finishing with a final mark of 14.02 seconds.

Fellow Freshman Christopher Coats followed up with a third-place finish in the 400m dash with a final time of 46.98 seconds.

The Spartans’ hard running continued in the women’s events, as graduate senior Victoria Agyin finished third in the women’s triple jump with a 12.87m mark.

Sophomore Emilia Sjostrand continued her dominant season, securing a second-place finish in the women’s long jump with a 6.23m jump tying a school record from 2018.

this finish comes days after Sjostarnd was honored as Moutain West Women’s Field Athlete of the Week for her performance at the Cardinal Classic last weekend.

The Spartans will return home after a busy weekend of events and will begin to shift their focus to the West Coast Relays in Fresno Calif. on march 30th and 31st.
