After multiple successful events in Albuquerque, SJSU track and field said goodbye to the indoor season with one final dance in the Land Of Enrichment on March 11.

The lone Spartan representing the blue and gold at the NCAA indoor championships was sophomore jumper, Emilia Sjostrand who made history as the first woman in program history to represent SJSU at this event.

Sjostrand began the weekend with the women’s long jump where she finished 11th with a jump of 6.27 m. The jump marks the third-best time in school history with the top two jumps also belonging to her.

On day two of the competition, Sjostrand took on the women’s triple jump where she set a new school record with a 13.98 m jump and finished in seventh place overall.

Sjostrand’s performances in both events were enough to earn her All-American honors making her the first woman to win the award in the program’s history.

Sjostrand’s historic performance comes only two weeks after showing out at the Moutain West Indoor Championships where she won first place in the woman’s triple jump and was named performer of the meet.

With Indoor season now officially in the books, the Spartans will shift their focus to the second outdoor event of the season. SJSU track and field is set to compete in the Cardinal Classic On March 18 at Stanford University.
