In Saturday’s matchup, SJSU softball (13-14, 2-0 MW) came out on top of the Nevada Wolfpack (19-4, 0-2 MW) after winning 5-0.

Redshirt senior utility player Jenessa Ullegue got started on the mound and allowed one hit while striking out eleven batters.

The bats stayed quiet for the first three innings until freshmen infielder Reina Zermeno hit an RBI single to start the fourth inning.

Afterward, redshirt junior infielder Karizma Bergesen batted in two more runners to increase the Spartan lead to 3-0.

San Jose State still had more scoring left in them as redshirt senior Alyssa Graham added the fourth run after a dropped ball by the catcher.

Eventually, Zermeno would bring in the last run behind an RBI single by redshirt senior infielder Jessica Giacoma.

SJSU softball now has a series lead of 2-0 over the Nevada Wolfpack and looked to sweep the series going into Sunday’s noon matchup.

SJSU softball falls in its series finale vs. Nevada

After winning the series’ first two games, SJSU softball (13-15, 2-1 MW) lost its series finale game 9-1 to the Nevada Wolfpack (20-4, 1-2 MW) in five innings.

In the first inning, the Spartans gave up four runs that put them in a deep hole similar to Friday’s comeback win. But this time, the Wolfpack wasn’t allowing that to happen.

Although the Spartans tried to make a first-inning roar by scoring one run, it wasn’t enough to get them back into the game.

Additionally, the Wolfpack dropped five more runs in the third inning, beginning with a grand slam by sophomore utility player Aaliyah Jenkins. At this point, a 9-1 deficit was out of reach for San Jose State.

Despite dropping the final game versus Nevada, the Spartans still have the season series lead over the Wolfpack.

The Spartans continue their season as the University of Pacific (8-13, 0-2 MW) visits this Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. and will be live on the Mountain West Network.
