The SJSU baseball team (6-6, 3-0 MW) went to battle yesterday afternoon against St. Mary’s college (5-9, 0-0 WCC). The Spartans were blown out 8-3 at home.

The game felt like a home run derby. There were five home runs hit in the game, two from SJSU and three from St.Mary’s, a real display of power in this matchup.

Redshirt junior third baseman Dalton Bowling had a solid game today going two for four. One of those hits being a double and the other a massive home run in the second inning to spark the team’s offense.

After Dowling’s homerun, St. Mary’s bounced back quickly adding two home runs in the top of the third inning. Freshman shortstop Jared Mettam hit a tank over the left center field wall and in back-to-back fashion junior center fielder Dalton Mashore pulled a homer to right field.

The Spartans attempted to make a comeback in the bottom of the sixth inning. Junior shortstop Theo Hardy singled to left center field, bowling from second making the score 4-2.

The Gaels put the game out reach in the seventh inning by tallying two more runs. The Spartans fell to the Gaels by a final score of 8-3.

Catch the Spartans Friday in game one of their three game home stand against Air Force. Matchup starts at 12:05 p.m. in Excite Ballpark.
